The Graves County
(KY) public schools wanted their curriculum guides to not only describe
the course of instruction, but also provide their teachers with links
to technology resources that would enhance the classroom experience. We
created a customized library for them (on our "KentuckyLearns.com"
website), and the project rolled out in August, 2003. The results
have been exceptional!
"Our curriculum
alignment makes sure all teachers lead students toward the material they
need to learn. The real innovation here is that those links provide the
latest, updated material available on the Web," said Instructional
Supervisor Janice Kendall. "The company filters all sites for appropriate
material and to be free of pop-up ads. They regularly update the links
and respond to the needs of our specific curriculum."

To date, Graves County teachers and students have "clicked through" to over 90,000 instructional
websites through their curriculum documents. "As a Language Arts
teacher with three young children of my own, one of my most precious commodities
is time," said Lee Ann Rodgers of Graves County Middle School. "This
makes planning and implementing innovative lessons very time efficient.
There are direct links to interactive sites with tutorials, games, and
virtual fieldtrips that can be used to enhance classroom instruction through
group or individual projects." "On
the first day I saw them, I already found a lot of useful links that I
plan to use in my classroom during the year," said Shay Brown, a
Lowes Elementary School teacher. "I can't count how many hours I
have spent looking for sites like these. The ones I have found on my own
do not hold a candle to some of these."
